Russell completed the curriculum of the Comparative Medical Illustration program at the UGA college of veterinary medicine. During his time at UGA, he was fortunate enough to work with a team of outstanding medical illustrators and animators as well as numerous other experts in various fields of veterinary medicine.


He earned his Master's of Science in Medical Illustration in 2014 from the Georgia program where he studied human anatomy alongside medical students as well as other subjects including histology and pathology.


He received his Bachelors of Fine Arts in Drawing and Painting from Utah State University where his education concentrated on learning then combining traditional art techniques with digital imaging to create his work. During his time at USU, he was able to enhance his education by studying abroad in Europe while also adding additional biology and science courses to his curriculum to further his goal of becoming a medical Illustrator.


Before returning to school for his BFA Russell spent many years working for an award-winning portrait design studio as the sole production artist and graphic designer transitioning the workflow from that of traditional film to a state of the art digital production Russell earned his first associates degree in General Art in 2004 from the College of Southern Idaho. Two more degrees followed In Commercial Art and Photography Darkroom skills respectively. During his time at CSI, he also studied computer science as well as Graphic Design In order to augment his artistic studies.


Even from his earliest educational pursuits, Russell has striven to combine Art and Science with the use of traditional and contemporary artistic techniques. Through this combination, he aspires to create visually compelling and scientifically accurate images for a wide range of audiences.
